Arts & Crafty

Oh. It’s been a month since I last updated. Should I make one of my New Year’s resolutions to update more often? Maybe…

Last month I took my first glass fusing class. I like it! The first thing I made got stuck to the mold though. :(

These are the first three things I made. Experimenting with stringers, which is just what it sounds like, strings of glass.

I could say I have a brimming plate, but that would just be an excuse and an exaggeration. Yeah, I’m taking four – and a half – classes, a glass sculpture class outside of school, and volunteering. I still have time to feed my nasty habit, procrastination, because I know I can get away with it. I have another paper due and two midterms within the next couple days, better get a workin’!

Here’s what I have done so far in my glass class. Our first project was an alien octopus…thing. Cause you can’t really mess up, haha!

Second was a turtle!

I also made a flower yesterday, but I did a bad job on attaching the petals to the stem and 3 of the petals fell off already. :( This is my first time working with glass, or well with melting glass and working with a flame. I’m definitely still in the process of getting the hang of things. It’s easier to know what you want to do beforehand than to go back and try to fix things. Also helps to know how to fix your mistakes or tweak things. I didn’t; so don’t look too closely at my first two! Looking forward to more practice. :)

Three months ago I made a trip to Berkeley to spend the day with one of my favorite people. After lunch and a stop at CVS that we spent ogling nail polish, we made it to Crossroads, a second-hand clothing store. We weren’t looking to buy, but to sell. You can either get paid 35% in cash of what they will sell your item for or 50% in store credit. Given what I’ve seen on the racks, I was hoping they would take more of our items. I guess it depends on your luck.

I got this vintage whistle necklace with my mini black studded skirt and a buck or two. I like simple jewelry and I’ve grown quite fond of this necklace.

Part of the chain has discolored though. =[ So I gave it something new to hang on.
